The Wolf Man of Ellezelles
In the heart of the Ellezelles hills stands an imposing sculpture of a human form slowly transforming into a wolf. This is the Wolf Man, a figure from the deepest witch legends of the region.
1 The Cursed One
The Wolf Man was once a hunter who turned against the witches of Ellezelles. He betrayed their sabbat to the village clergy, and in revenge they cursed him with a terrible affliction: every full moon, he would transform into a predator, half-man, half-wolf.
The transformation was never quick – it was slow and agonizing, his bones twisting, his face distorting, his humanity gradually replaced by hunger and wilderness.
2 The Nightly Hunt
For a hundred years, the Wolf Man hunted by night in the hills. Villagers locked their doors when the full moon rose. They heard his hoarse cries echoing between the rocks, felt his green eyes watching from the darkness.
Yet strangely, he never killed innocent victims – he seemed to hunt only animals and those who harbored evil.
3 The Stone Form
Today’s sculpture shows the Wolf Man frozen in his eternal transformation, forever caught halfway between man and beast. Travelers touch his stone face for strength and protection in the darkness.
Some say that if you pass the sculpture at night, you can still hear his breathing – a reminder of his endless curse.
