The Sorceress and the Return
A man had fled to France because he was falsely accused of stealing a pig from a farm. The grieving wife of that man went to a woman who possessed special powers.
1 The Desperate Woman
“Do you have money?” asked the sorceress, “A quarter is enough, but I cannot do it for free.” Then the sorceress fell to her knees before a crucifix saying: “Sacrè Coeur de Dieu, aidez-moi.” The woman waited with mixed feelings.
2 The Magical Promise
Then the sorceress spoke to the woman: “He will come home tonight.” When the woman lay in bed that evening, she suddenly heard someone knock on the door saying: “Woman, I am back. I do not know what is wrong with me, but it seemed as if I was forced to come here. I am completely drenched with effort.”
3 Grace of the Church
When the woman told a priest what had happened, the cleric said that her visit to the sorceress would be forgiven. The priest would pray for the woman all day and furthermore submit a special request to the bishop. The man remained home, and the accusation was eventually dropped.
