The Witch's Cat of Ypres Church

A woman who was abused by her husband saw black cats everywhere. Indeed, a black cat roamed near her home, so people believed the woman had been bewitched by that cat. One day, this black cat wandered through the church during Mass. The children cried out: "Sister, the witch's cat is inside!"

Just as the priest began the Mass, the cat jumped onto the pulpit. When the parishioners started singing, the cat began to meow. The sister spoke to one of the schoolgirls: "Dare you catch that cat? Then I will give you a reward". The girl approached the cat, which then wandered toward the choir.

Once the cat was caught, the sister put the animal in a sack, which she tied shut with iron wire. A servant then buried the animal alive after asking: "Sister, do I not commit a sin by burying the cat in this manner?" The cat meowed for some time and then died. The following night, the sister heard constant noise in her room. For half an hour, the sister trembled with fear. Then she turned on the light and saw that a mouse sat at the foot of her bed.
