Pleudde, the Hound of Scherpenheuvel

Two men walked in the evening along the Zandbaan near Zichem. Suddenly they saw behind them an enormous hound, three times larger than normal. Around the creature’s neck was something attached that scraped across the sand.

The two men stopped in their tracks – and the hound stopped as well. As they continued toward a nearby inn, Pleudde suddenly sat by the door. The innkeeper did not recognize the being. The hound ate nothing, as if it did not belong to this earthly world.

When the men made ready to leave and said, «In God’s name,» the creature vanished without a trace. There was no sound, no movement – the being was simply gone, like mist in the wind.
